CAUSES – The most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the United States is Chlamydia. The microscopic organism Chlamydia trachomatis, has the characteristics of both a virus and a bacterium; which is both by both vaginal and anal sex. Conjunctivitis can develop if you touch your eyes with a contaminated hand.
TREATMENT – Tetracycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, cefoxitin, or penicillin derivatives are antibiotics that may be prescribed by your doctor. Herbal therapies such as goldenseal may be used to treat the infection.
PREVENTION – Condoms are best used to prevent transmission of Chlamydia.
