There are many causes of cataracts, including aging, diabetes, and other diseases. Cataracts affect most people who are over the age of 70; which is called senile cataracts. Clouding of the lens can occur only in the nucleus, in which case the term nuclear sclerosis is used.
TREATMENT – Currently, the only corrective treatment is surgery. More than 500,000 cataract surgeries are performed annually in the United States.
PREVENTION – Wearing UV-protection sunglasses when exposed to bright sunlight can be helpful. A diet high in fruits and vegetables is recommended my naturopaths.
